Senior citizens are the cornerstone of our families and form part of society’s greatest assets.
On a few occasions, I’ve had the pleasure of spending an entire day with a group of the funniest and most insightful people to walk this earth. They are all over 60 and would say “You’re only as young as you feel”
I was recently a spectator at a senior sports day, whereby several senior recreational clubs, joined together to compete in a fun sports day. They participated in various games relevant to their age and mobility and those who were unable to compete physically, cheered the others on enthusiastically. Those elderly folk certainly proved they could outrun and out dance me any day of the week – Senior citizens are not to be messed with. They have more spunk than you realize, having seen it all and done it all and lived to tell the tale.
“You’ve heard the saying respect your elders, well there’s nothing in there about us having to do it back”– Betty White, 96 yr old comedian (opening credit of Betty White’s Off their Rockers) #BettyWhite #icons.
Do yourself a favour and watch a few episodes with these mischievous pranksters – You’ll end up in stitches and with a new perspective of older folk.
In the City of Cape Town’s 2016 SEP Profile, it was recorded there were over 252 000 elderly over 65 years living in our city. As cornerstones of our society and a treasure of wisdom and experience, we really must learn to value our senior citizens and the contribution they have made in building our nation. Their blood, sweat and tears and refusal to back down in the face of adversity, oppression and social injustice, created opportunities for the freedoms so many of us enjoy today. Our question should now is how, if at all, are we giving back to them?
Admittedly, I find myself wanting to do more, but truthfully I need more hours in the day to and an extra set of hands to get things done in my own life – That is why I’m so glad I came across On the Go Virtual Personal Assistant Services.
